However, in a stunning upset in 1969, the New York Jets, representing the AFL, triumphed over the Baltimore Colts (NFL) with a score of 16-7. The Super Bowl's popularity continued to soar after the AFL-NFL merger. The 1970s were largely dominated by three powerhouse teams: the Dallas Cowboys, Miami Dolphins, and Pittsburgh Steelers.
